What causes Hip Dysplasia?

Hip dysplasia has been one of the most widely studied areas in veterinary medicine. There is still some debate about the causes, but there are some things that are considered to be true:

- Hip Dysplasia is a hereditary disease.

- If they already have the disease in their bloodlines, overfeeding or hyper-nutrition of the larger breed dogs can increase their chances of developing hip dysplasia. Put another way, if a dog has a hereditary predisposition to dysplasia, careful monitoring of their nutrition may decrease the chances of them becoming dysplastic or, at the least, reduce the severity.

So here is the point you need to understand; if any parents or ancestors of your dog have had hip dysplasia, the chances increase that your dog will also have it .
